Argument to the people?
Argumentum ad populum means “general view of society” in Latin.
This is a bias in which a person accepts something that is in popular view as something true without any logical considerations.
We live in a world full of different views and arguments.
Some views will shape the way we make decisions and it happens
Not to mention if the majority of people Database consider something as a norm.
A good example to show argumentum ad populum is: “Studying at university is necessary to succeed”
Because the majority of people have such a view, many people go on to university without thinking twice.
They are willing to take out education loans to pay the sometimes ridiculous fees.
Most people do not question how long it will take to get a return on the investment they have made.
Many people do not think whether they can acquire the same knowledge through other means, without wasting 4-5 years of their life.
Or maybe there is a chance they could use that time in a better direction by doing something else.
Getting a university degree is just an act of ticking a box to get to the next argument which is: “You need to find a job”
It’s because everyone does that.
